Is your network using NetBeui? That protocol is not loaded by default.
You must do so manually.

Subject: Strange Windows Network Problem

I have a W98 PC that cannot 'see' the network. It's an ethernet
network. I have done the following:

1) Made sure it's settings are identical to another W98 PC (except the
obvious like PC name and IP address). This includes the LMHOSTS and
HOSTS file.

2) File and print sharing is enabled.

3) Gone thru the entire W98 Network Trouble Shooter.

4) This PC cannot see any other PC on the network and no other PC on
the
network can see this PC. This includes 'search for computers'.

5) This PC _can_ see the AS/400 netserver, however. (Maybe because
that
is in the LMHOSTS file?)

6) I have reinstalled W98 and been to MS website via the 'Windows
Update' option.

7) I have used Norton Utilities to clean up the registry and have
Norton
AV 2002 installed. Norton cannot do a live update, however.

8) The user can access the internet, email, CA Express, and Netserver,
so I ass-u-me that means the ethernet card is OK.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
