I like the idea! On a related note: Last week a friend of mine, who's an Apple-ite (yes it can be like a religion) went to Fry's ( a great computer store chain on the west coast). It was early and there were scads of MS gladhanders just standing around for the "premier" of XP. While he was being handed a T-Shirt, he asked what it was, when told it was his free XP t-shirt, he uttered something akin to "EWEE!" and pulled his hand back while the shirt fluttered to the floor. He says about 5-10 of the Microsofty stand ins looked aghast at him. He was very glad of the (almost) perfect audience for his display of disgust. -----Original Message----- From: Bale, Dan [mailto:Dan.Bale@handleman.com] Sent: Monday, October 29, 2001 9:16 AM To: midrange-nontech@midrange.com Subject: Bought Windows XP, but it will gather dust... This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Boy, do I ever have mixed feelings on this. I wonder how many others are doing this. Staples is running a promotion that gets you about $500 worth of merchandise for the cost of buying XP plus the sales tax on that $500 and the cost of postage. I will actually use, and have been planning or was already shopping for, about $350 worth of that merchandise. Final cost: $135. What really bugs me is that I am adding to the number of XP copies that Microsh*t has sold and gets to brag about. In its current state, I wouldn't let XP within 10 feet of my PC. Maybe I should set up a small bonfire and videotape the sacrifice of an unopened XP package. And post that video on a web site somewhere. I understand that CD-ROMs burn with brilliant colors.
