October of 1987 is when I got my first hands-on with a "Silverlake" machine. Software vendors were already working on having their code ready to go on announcement day in 1988.

Subject: Q38 Technical Journal, 09/87 quote
Hello,
for your amusement in hindsight, allow me to cite from the Editor's Notebook (closing words):
The current five-year plan, which calls for 38-technology growing into a 200-gigabyte DASD and untold gigabytes of memory may be altered if demand and technology persist. Apparently, the "midrange" marketplace is growing. Computer customers no longer want to rely on a large mainframe sitting in a corporate tower somewhere. They want their own machine, and they want the capabilities of "mainframe software". With the recent strides in superconductive materials, in the next ten years, every computer may be midrange, or micro anyway. But there are limits. What would you do with CPF on a wrist-watch sized computer anyway — join your pulse to your respiratory rate?
I had a chuckle over the editor's hopes for "gigabytes of memory", and the remark about what is available as smartwatches for some time, already. :-) Although they do not run CPF, obviously. Smartwatch vs. almost surfboard-sized keyboard? :-D
:wq! PoC
