I once had a customer who used a construction software package from Computer Guidance Corporation in Phoenix. The package had been updated for that year's year-end processing, including the W2 changes required by the IRS.

Unfortunately, the customer was 2 OS releases behind, and CGC wouldn't help. I was scheduled to travel to the customer site to install the package upgrades. I told Al about the situation, and he overnighted to the customer all the CD's I would need to do the 2 OS upgrades so that I could do the year-end upgrade of the package. It was a straight 40 hour weekend in a cold data center, but the task was completed in time to produce the W2's and get them out to the employees in the field.

What a pal. 😊

Agreed about Al. Wonderful guy.

Someone actually used his name on Amazon to review my 1st eRPG book in a very negative light. I contacted him and he replied right away (called me) and said "I promise you that isn't me! It was just someone using my name obviously. I am so sorry! " He even contacted Amazon with me and we had it removed.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Al. It's a shame too because I've

In the last 20 years I don't get to conferences much, so I've only met

2 IBMi "celebrities". One I've met a few times and he's a great guy,

but the other was a rude jerk. NEVER want to see him again. Ugh.

Heh, this reminds me of an incident many years ago.

Traffic on the lists was slow for a day and Al Barsa called me

and asked if anything was wrong.

I told him that nothing was wrong, it was just a slow day. I then

said

he was addicted to the mailing lists and was going through withdrawal.

He laughed at that and said that was a possibility.
