Yep, OAuth and email is the current next big thing.
I'm approaching the new world email stuff by bypassing much of the built
in IBMi system stuff and using open source like PHP and Python with command
wrappers.
In my real world it's often much easier to bypass RPG for web service
callers, email providers and other integrations. Just use CL to integrate
them to RPG and CL as needed.
You don't really to use any of the system SSL store stuff either when you
use the open-source stack. Much easier to configure. And you can use
utilities like curl which are drop-dead simple to integrate to CL and RPG
now.
Although you need to understand and install the open-source packages which
is quite well documented these days and easy to do.
If anyone here is interested in using open-source stack based CL commands
for email and other integrations, reach out and I can educate you on
MobiGoGo Connect.

Ask me how many customers have asked me to incorporate a web interface,
open source, "new stuff", etc. into my offerings that are used mainly in
background batch processes.
Go ahead. I'll give you two guesses and the first doesn't count.
Now ask me how many customers making the move to OAuth 2.0 for Office 365
email have needed assistance setting it up just because there are a couple
web pages involved, setting up the *SYSTEM SSL store on the IBM i, adding
DNS servers so they can resolve endpoints for O365, updating the
authorities to the keyring files... I could go on.
These lists are our own little world. The real world is very different.
