Ask me how many customers have asked me to incorporate a web interface,
open source, "new stuff", etc. into my offerings that are used mainly in
background batch processes.

Go ahead. I'll give you two guesses and the first doesn't count.

Now ask me how many customers making the move to OAuth 2.0 for Office 365
email have needed assistance setting it up just because there are a couple
web pages involved, setting up the *SYSTEM SSL store on the IBM i, adding
DNS servers so they can resolve endpoints for O365, updating the
authorities to the keyring files... I could go on.

These lists are our own little world. The real world is very different.

Yep.... Scotty is the king of ClickBait (not sure about ads.. if you don't
use adblocker that's on you haha), but I will say between him and WatchJRGo
I've learned a lot of stuff. I've actually stopped watching Scotty as
much. He knows what he's doing... hehe.. If I could spend a day with
JRGo's dad I would pay him $500 an hour.. haha.. he's a plethora of
knowledge on anything it seems.

You go ahead and stay current, but remember I'm providing solutions to
thousands of shops. Not just myself or a couple custom apps for a few
shops.

Good to know you are kind of progressive :)

I value my personal time as well, but for good or bad I'm always
consuming technology to stay current.

Scotty Kilmer - King of click bait ads....... And he's retirement age.

Not at all.

My original complaint was having to help support an apache server for
my customers. Then an open source solution was offered. I have no
problem
personally with open source. But that would be a much larger can of
worms
supporting thousands of customers and needing open source.

I do have open source solutions with a few customers and when it goes
down it's no fun at all. Apache I can tell them to run a simple
command, look at job logs, etc.

So don't assume I'm poo pooing open source. I value my personal time
and I am not going to start teaching and supporting thousands of
customers all over the world how to install and use open source, check
if it's running, run down issues, etc.. etc... especially when most
of those customers expect me to do all that for free. And if you are
assuming even 10% of customers wouldn't need that help, well... you'd be
wrong.

It's like buying a car and then expecting the salesman to teach you
how to drive, change the oil, read and interpret CELs with an ODB2
scanner, etc.
all for free. I'm not Scotty Kilmer haha!
