From an ISV point of view, years ago I wanted to make web interfaces for

most of my tools. Then I realized I would have to also include
instructions on setting up an Apache web server instance, have them choose
an IP, port, etc.. Then if it ever went down I'd be maintaining that as
well and teaching them how to troubleshoot it, etc. I've done a small
amount of web interfaces where needed, but knowing what I know about most
shops, I decided against web interfaces.

Then with more thought I realized that most of the green screen UIs I have
are mainly for configuration, not actual production. While some do use
them for production, most of the time the commands are woven into programs,
interactive and batch, and there's no real interface to worry about.

But down the road I may need to rethink the web interface... I just don't
want to support an apache server as well. the "new crop" that is replacing
the seasoned IBMi that are retiring at a large rate don't even know how to
view or send a job log for support. And most want me to be their systems
guy when it comes to things like creating the *SYSTEM store, etc...

There, just a little more kerosene for the fire. I thought I saw the horse
kick a little.
