Im not referring to the code. I'm referring the pile of bandaids an
unneeded complexity.

We can guess what underlying code may break SDA... but they could just say
"use it until it doesn't work".

Hopefully they're not trying to push people to websphere again.. lol Or
Net.Slow (data) for UI design.

That is not necessarily true Brad. Utiliities like SDA use underlying
system facilities that may require changes. Sometimes "just leaving" is not
an option. Not saying that this is the case in this instance but it happens.

As to SMTP - I really doubt that the underlying code is as bad as SDA. It
wasn't around on S/38 was it?

I admit, though, that I am really surprised at the level of upset this is
causing - but then I rarely used SDA even when there was no alternative.

No one is asking them to maintain it. Just leave it be and don't support

The SMTP system is a bigger heap of twine and bandaids lol.

We don't know if there is a reason or not Richard.

I suspect the reason is financial. Maintaining that heap of baler twine,
chewing gum and Krazy Glue is difficult at best. In the past, system
changes have forced changes to old utilities and some were not that
easy.

But I can't see people staying on an unsupported release because of
this.
It is not as if you can't still maintain the DDS. Heck an awful lot of
RPG
developers never use it anyway.

I’m just curious how many of you folks will stay at V7R5 because of
this
short sighted move or removing SDA and forcing RDI as an option or the
non-completed VS Code SDA alternative.

There’s no reason that SDA couldn’t have been left on the box for those
customers who are using it.

We have a number of older customers using S/36 environment code and I
don’t think I can advise them to go beyond V7R5 unless they are
planning to
stop maintaining their green screen apps.

Interested in your thoughts.
