Hello Jim,

I’ve watched the on going debate about the UI, (5250 vs. anything else) with relative amusement since 90% of the discussion is a repeat almost every year.

I feel frequency increases. ;-)

That fits into my category because while I can and do create software in IBM i the whole app/html etc. world is beyond my skill set. (And being old enough to not want to spend a year learning all of that)

Heretic question: Does it always need to be web? This whole web thing has become increasingly complex, while UI toolkits like Qt have evolved to be no longer solely a Linux-thing.

If you ignore mobile devices — which can be valid, depending on use case – what's wrong with an application talking to a backend service on the i, and deploying a "fat application"? Especially with the whole AI hype probably helping in getting started quickly with a minimal working result?

Or, what about experienced Java programmers being able to bring a GUI applications to the desktop with possibly less effort in learning and mastering that wonky house of cards current, fast changing "full stack" web tech seems to me to be?

:wq! PoC
