Remotely obtaining the ASMI IP is probably meaningless in this case because
if they didn't have it documented they most certainly didn't even cable the
HMC port. So you still need somebody to go hook the port into the network
so they could also do the Function 30 on the panel at the same time.
The only state you need the server to be in is "power cable inserted into
PSU", since as soon as you get power the FSP boots up. Power Off, Power On,
Stdby, Error, in all of those cases you should be able to do Function 30
and access the ASMI.

Your instructions about function 30 sound right. I was just hoping for a
remote way to do it. Like through the VCP. I think the only detail left
out is that the instructions say the system must be in Standby Mode. But I
may try it without that.

Look up how to get the IP address on the ASMI. Basically you need to put
it into manual mode, then use option 30 to get to the IP addresses.
3001
will be one port 3002 will be the second port. (These instructions not
quite complete since from memory)

Google it and you’ll find the instructions in the first panel.

I am trying to determine the ASMI address on a system without an HMC.
Tried to use option 30 from VCP (Virtual Control Panel). Easy enough
to
get into Manual mode and look at some of the options but not 30. Some
reading leads me to believe that option 30 is only valid if your system
is
in "Standby" mode. Not something I really want to try remotely.

Had a crazy thought that perhaps the address for VCP might be the same
as
that for ASMI but a feeble attempt failed. I suppose if one had
multiple
LPARs using Lan Console that would be difficult though.
