Yea loosing the connection is disconcerting but then again how many times has it really failed?

Using the virtual control panel is a bit like a bicycle with training wheels, one you’ve ridden a full size bicycle it feels really strange.

In the end you get almost the same information as with the HMC, but when the LIC is booting there are some point of faith needed.

In order to relieve some anxiety in those cases we put the ASMI on the same network as the LAN console so we can see what’s going on at that level. (Securing that network away from the general network).

Picking up a little side work.
Lan Console questions.

1: When using the virtual control panel how do you tell if the system
attention light is lit or not? Image available at

2: Being more familiar with HMC I was a little disconcerted when the VCP
and the system console status bar stopped showing anything during an IPL.
Am I safe to assume that this was because firmware is OS managed on this
system and that IPL lost it's connection during that PTF IPL? On HMC
managed systems I don't lose connection like this.
