Long Term Support, or LTS, versions of Java include 8, 11, 17. Versions
between are not LTS and are only recommended if you're desperate for some
of their features.
Going from 17 to 11 is technically a downgrade. But maybe they aren't ready
for 17 yet. Should be, it's not exactly wet behind the ears. 11, even
though a LTS, had a much shorter life span than 8 et al. It's won't even
be supported on rNext.

For as long as I can remember, Java version numbers have been a mishmash
of utter confusion. Due to a problem I'm having with ACS crashing and
randomly resizing 5250 emulator windows, IBM wants me to update Java to
"Java 11". Currently ACS/Help/About says:
java.version: 17.0.9
java.vendor: Eclipse Adoptium
java.home: C:\Program Files (x86)\Eclipse Adoptium\jre-17.0.9.9-hotspot

Is that Java 17? Java 9? Java 9.9?

Windows 10 command window, running java -version returns: java version
"1.8.0_411".

I won't be able to download IBM's suggested "IBM OpenJ9's Java 11" without
submitting a request to our internal review board. I do see in our
Software Center the option to install Adoptium Temurin OpenJDK 17.0.6_10,
which includes the JRE. Is that Java 6? Java 10?

Google was not my friend.
