From a 5250, start a PASE shell by issuing:

     CALL QP2TERM

Then issue:

    du --help

to see detailed help for how to use this command.

Just out of morbid curiosity,

Has anybody else noticed that the name of this utility, "ncdu," sounds (at least in the most obvious pronunciation) like Gilgamesh's sidekick ("Enkidu")?

Nope. I guess this is not intentional.

nc is for ncurses, a common library for cursor positioning within vt100 environments and companions.

du is for disk usage, a common command on Unix'ish OS.

The latter is already provided by IBM on my 7.2 test machine. Probably no need to involve installing ncdu if you seek for pure text output.
