Jack,

I did the connect manually with -vvv , and got the fail when checking
known_hosts, but never got a prompt to accept a new key.
Using command ssh-keyscan gave me the new key and i copypaste into
known_hosts (you are right copypaste is bad - 1st time didn't have window
open enough to copy 100% of characters. I do always copy into a text file,
never Word.
Its now working.
Thanks
Jim Franz.

Pasting into known_hosts generally is bad.
You probably have 2 keys in there for same host.
If you can identfy those keys remove one or both.
Better procedure: When they change the key, connect manually and when it
fails ssh / sftp give you a command to remove the old key.
Then you connect manually and accept the key.
Then after that it works.

Subject: sftp issue after updating remote server key

Have 1 sftp (we are the client) that still requires a password.
Was failing on initial connection.
Their server key changed last week.
I used ssh-keyscan to get their new key, and copy/paste into known_hosts

Now connecting, but the password code not working
