So, the IBM i sits at 10.0.10.140. Laptop is at 10.0.10.50 Nothing in
between but cabling. Can't ping 10.0.10.140. So, I either have a
cabling issue or, somehow, a network issue. I can't remember if the
system settings automatically start TCP/IP.

How do you know the IBM i is configured for 10.0.10.140? Are you in via an HMC or direct cabling to confirm that?

If it doesn't start TCP/IP automatically, how would you normally bring up the system? With an HMC?

Did you just set up your laptop for 10.0.10.50? Is that DHCP? Is the IBM i DHCP or did you choose the address?

If the IBM i configures via DHCP, your DHCP server will know if it is up.
