I rather suspect that any SQL solution will effectively do the same thing under the covers.

I pinged Scott Fortie with the original question - he says it's on his

Just to be clear, my "cheating" comment regarding Cozzi's solution was
intended to be light-hearted but it does seem to me that an SQL solution to
replicate DSPPGMREF function that actually uses DSPPGMREF via QCMDEXC is,
in a way, cheating. I'm not saying it doesn't solve the problem, just that
it wasn't the solution I was hoping for.

Very interesting, man! I've long looked at a library as some kind of
table of contents for the objects it contains - perhaps some kind of
organized list of objects as a way to refer to them collectively.

But Steve's original question still holds - yes, Bob Cozzi's tool can be
used, it is an SQL "service" provided by someone other than IBM - I
wouldn't call it cheating, it's what IBM has made possible for us to do.

Of course, wouldn't we all like something "free"? That's in quotes
because nothing is exactly free, anyhow. So, for now, I suggest Steve
submit an Idea for this - the Db2 team is quite responsive. I would
definitely vote for it.

Cheers

Vern,

You will see the *OIR mentioned occasionally in problem descriptions
and for certain APIs, etc.

For example, see:

Hi Mark

I admit to being confused - I don't see anything about OIR information
in the output file for DSPPGMREF, and not in the documentation - what
have I missed?

Steve,
How else can we do this? DSPPGMREF is the only documented and
supported interface to obtain the "*OIR" information (object
information repository) for each library.

Looks like ol' Bob is cheating a little - he's just wrapping the
DSPPGMREF
command in SQL and doing a CALL QSYS2.QCMDEXC rather than running it
from a
command line.

Oh, well - thanks for your help, Mark!

All -

I'm trying to identify all programs on the system that use a specific
IBM-provided Service Program (*SVCPGM). I can do this using
DSPPGMREF on a
particular program or *ALL programs in a library and searching
through the
resulting list.

I would prefer to use SQL to get the list of programs - is there a
service
that will return this information? I expect to provide the Service
Program
name and receive a list of all programs using that program.

Thanks,
