Hi John,
Thanks for the python suggestion.
I have a followup if anyone would know if I install the expect tool, would work? Does it enable a completely different method of user/password, or is still based on the underlying already installed ssh on the ibm as400?
Basically I am asking which do you think would have a better shot of not burning my toast,... Expect or the iseriesPython install?

Thanks,Frank

Also, the SFTP server admin told me he is unable to change the config on his server side, as he does not have access, something about it is basically a SAAS. I am able to change the client config on the AS400, just don't know what or how to change anything.

This is a long shot, but if you're able to install software on the
client, you might be able to use iSeriesPython to do the SFTP, because
it has its own cryptography libraries and those might include
algorithms that can be used with the server.

I'm no expert, and I don't know your situation that well, but I can
tell you I personally used iSeriesPython (which is free and runs on
V5R3 or later) to set up an automated, recurring SFTP exchange with a
vendor at my previous job, many years ago.

If you can set up a more modern system that can use current sftp then use  regular FTP to get it there and send it from that box.  More cumbersome and a bit slower but it might work.

The Python idea is also a good one but I doubt you?ll find powerPC ports for a system that old.
