Jay,
RTFM. The ILE Concepts manual has a whole chapter about this topic.
It is particularly complex when dealing with "commitment control" because commitment control is activated at the activation group level.
If you really need to have an application that may have components running in multiple activation groups, such as the *DFTACTGRP, then you really need to issue the STRCMTCTL command with CMTSCOPE(*JOB), prior to invoking any of the programs that start up those other activation groups.
(Perhaps this could be done from some "main menu" program, early on in the process.)
I hope that helps,
Mark

so pretty basic question (unfortunately I don't know the answer)
in db2 commitment control (not sql), if a commitment control boundary is
started, and a file in a different actgrp is attempted to be
written/updated/deleted, will an error occur?
In other works, does nonSQL commitment control carry across actgrps?
When I say nonSQL I mean STRCMTCL command starts the cc and it is not
defined at the sql tables cc definition.
