I have an activity log file that I would like to be able to purge on demand but otherwise disallow record deletes. I suppose I could purge to a different file and the copy the records back.

Just a thought if you do not need to update records : use a journal in place of your log file, then use SNDJRNE command or QJOSJRNE API to add entries. Your purge activity would then be deleting the receivers. To query the journal, you can still use DISPLAY_JOURNAL table function.

I would figure that the thought would be so it couldn't be turned off maliciously so records could be removed.

Now I'm wondering if there is a way to programmatically turn this feature on and off. I don't see it as an option on the CHGPF command. Rich Loeber Kisco Systems LLC https://www.kisco.com ____________

In the S/36 days, I recall that a file could be created so that records could not be deleted from them. I'm looking for a way to do this using a PF in DDS, but I'm not seeing it. Is this just not an option in IBM i DB2 for a physical file?
