I am not familiar with doing any hardware work on the platform. I am an
applications and database specialist with experience on the midrange series
that goes back to the dark ages or thereabouts.
I work by remote VPN connection to do applications stuff for a company
located some 200 km south of where I live. They have no tech on site but
they do have their own Powr-9 machine in-house that they run their ERP
package as well as their email system (Domino) on.
Now recently the machine has reported some problems with an adapter (learnt
by asking that it has something to do with the RAID controller).
The IBM tech has (forwarded to me through the owner of the client company)
asked for a number of things.
First a couple of reports through the service utility. Fine did that.
Second asked to ?unassign? the adapter. I have no clue how that is done.
VRYCFG is not for adapters?
Third asked to install QMGTOOL library and create and mail a SYSSNAP file.
Did that (install was a bit of a hassle though but worked in the end).
Fourth asked to create something called PEDBG using the HMC. This task ?
(together with the ?unassign? thing) is where I am stumped. I have never
worked with the HMC in my life. Checked if it was possible to access through
the Navigator ut apparently not. Nothing in the ACS activities either. Saw
something about a web interface something like the navigator (link shown in
youtube video) but that did not work either. Is the HMC a device such as a
PC physically connected to the machine or is there some kind of setup that
Any hint about how to perform task 2 and 4 w/o travelling to the client site
would be really helpful!
