Steve,

Thanks for the suggestion. We actually do have a Data Domain at our DR site as well as at our production location. Our main backups are done from the DR site since we have replication setup between the sites. We then replicate the backup from DR to the production Data Domain. At our production site, we still do a weekly backup and that is the one that is duplicated to tape. It does seem like using the Data Domain support for a cloud tier would make the most sense.

I think you best solution is to replicate from the DataDomain. If you have a HA site, maybe consider a second DataDomain there to replicate media to. The DataDomain also supports a Cloud tier so you could replicate to the cloud directly from the DataDomain, or as Larry pointed out, find a Cloud provide that can act as a replication partner to your DataDomain.

Subject: Duplicating backup to Amazon S3

Hi,

We currently do backups to a Data Domain VTL using BRMS. Our weekly backup we duplicate to physical tape using the DUPMEDBRM command. Our management would like to get rid of the physical tape and wondered if we could duplicate the backup to Amazon S3 or another cloud storage option. I assume this is possible. I ran across the "Cloud Storage Solutions for I" product. I did notice the limitation of 2TB per day. I guess it would also depend on our internet connection. Is that the product we would need to do this? Are there other options? Currently, I'm not sure how big our backup is. I'll check into that. We are on 7.3 and up to date on PTF's as of July this year. TIA
