Yea, I’m so used to typing sftp, it was FTPS. Mind and fingers don’t always cooperate.

In any case we found the problem, the client had old host tables, hence wrong addresses that were “almost” valid. We do have those addresses, just not FTP behind them.

But, yes sftp is run through sshd so the increased logging level there could be useful.

In the sshd config file you can specify a logging level - have a look at
that and see if it helps.
SSHD needs to be restarted for the new settings to get active.
