The network team at one of our clients upgraded the core switches without
any planning - well that is my opinion.

System is 9009-41A running V7R3

We have a 2 Port 10G Nic

Type-model . . . . . . . . . : 58FA-001
Serial number . . . . . . . : YA50YD81P105
Part number . . . . . . . . : 01FT760

All available SFP's in the switches are in use.

The network team are now asking ...

1. Will the network card support 3rd party transceivers that are coded
specific to IBM? The brand they use are FlexOptix, this is the transceiver
we’d look to use -> https://www.flexoptix.net/en/transceiver/sfp-copper

2. If the answer to question 1 is no, is there an IBM branded / certified
10G-T transceiver that is supported?

Not sure if it helps you but there is some information in the 9009-41A announcement letter https://www.ibm.com/common/ssi/ShowDoc.wss?docURL=/common/ssi/rep_sm/3/872/ENUS9009-_h03/index.html. Look for ECS2 feature.

"Cables: For 10GbE, IBM offers Direct Attach (DAC) cables up to 5m. SFP-based transceivers are included on each end of the cables. See features EN01, EN02, EN03.

Transceivers: IBM qualifies and supports SFP+ optical transceiver (FC EB46) to install into the adapter. Customers can also use their own optical cabling and SFP+ optical transceiver for the other end. The 10 Gb optical transceiver is capable up to 300 M through the OM3 cable or 82 M through OM2 cable. Either one or both of the adapter's two SFP+ ports can be populated."

"(#EB46) 10GbE Optical Transceiver SFP+ SR

One optical transceiver for 10Gb Ethernet adapter such as #EC2S or #EC2R and also #EC2U or #EC2T using SFP+ SR. Does not include cable.

The 10 Gb optical transceiver is capable up to 300 M through the OM3 cable or 82 M through OM2 cable. Either one or both of the adapter's two SFP+ ports can be populated."

However, I have some trouble to understand what you mean. ECS2 is an *optical* adapter and the link to the transceiver you are talking about looks to be a *Copper RJ45* transceiver. For sure, I do not know if it works to insert such a transceiver in an optical adapter.

This system does NOT have a HMC or VIOS.

Thanks

Don
