I have tried using regular FTP and this fails ? apparently due to the file
size. And yes: I have adjusted the time parameters in the FTP script to
their maximum values.

Have you maxed out the tcp send/receive buffers as well?

Change TCP/IP Attributes (CHGTCPA)

Type choices, press Enter.

TCP keep alive . . . . . . . . . TCPKEEPALV 120
TCP urgent pointer . . . . . . . TCPURGPTR *BSD
TCP receive buffer size . . . . TCPRCVBUF 8388608
TCP send buffer size . . . . . . TCPSNDBUF 8388608
