The issue today is that all the FC stuff is still SCSI protocol. Once the SANs and IBM i can do NVMe direct over the Fiber Channel then stand back, that 8Gb Port is gonna get crushed! (Assuming you have the I/O need of course!)

But I agree that at this time 16G is the sweet spot for most in cost and performance.
