Re: Reset last used date

When the patch gets restored on the customer's system the last used date
will be reset.
As others have said, if you save/restore the object it should reset the
last used date.

The company that I am consulting for is installing a software patch and
someone asked to have the last used dates reset so they could tell what
objects in the patch have been used. I asked what difference it makes if
it
has been used and the response was "the company requested it so figure out
how to do it".

Honestly, in my opinion, it is a stupid request and there is no valid
reason
for it. I really didn't expect this much back and forth on this. I really
just expected a "no, you can't do it" and that would be the end of it. I
am
truly sorry that I wasted people's time.

mere metadata just being updated by the OS on certain occasions but not

(Same as with atime/mtime/ctime on Unix: You can set them to whatever you
want with touch(1), values are never checked for consistency, or logical

Yes. But what is the higher goal? Something the OP might elaborate on.

It's not hard to imagine some situations where you'd want an object to

appear "pristine". I will grant that in most such cases, resetting the last
used date is probably a nice-to-have; and the presence of 0 days used
should
be sufficient from a functionality standpoint.

Instead of doing guesswork, I'd prefer the OP to explain what he wants to
achieve. :-)

Maybe I'm right for asking about the "why", because the OP's initial
question "how to reset" still hasn't been answered with 100% confidence.
