The service is probably the best way to go. But there is another way, maybe.

Use EDTF on the parent of the directory - that's the same as option 2 in WRKLNK.

In EDTF you have several options - 6 will tell you the number of files and total size. It might take a while, of course, and the service might be faster.

You can also open to the directory in Windows explorer from a mapped network drive. You get the count directly when viewing a directory, it might also have the total size, I am not sure.

In Windows explorer, again, if you are in the parent directory, right-click on the directory and select Properties - eventually you'll have what you want.
