Re[2]: Backup to USB

An USB thumb key can give bare metal restore, too. Maybe a good point for keeping
a freshly installed OS. Won't argue about reliability questions :)

When it smells like AS/400|iSeries|IBM i, I strongly recommend (emulated) tape. Has the advantage of Bare Metal Restore, also.
