Maybe you can try to backup to NFS on Linux and then transfer to the device you prefer.

With some tuning we could get something between 40MB/s (400 Mbps) and 83 MB/s (830 Mbps) on 1Gb lines. There's no limit on the amount of data you can transfer, you can replicate using your network, and you can upload to your USB drive , even to an external 3.x UASP drive.
