Rob

confirmation of the drive can be performed via the AIX list configuration
command lscfg -vl hdisk*

This is run from the VIOS server padmin prompt and then the AIX
oem_setup_env shell

$ su - padmin
padmin's Password:
$ oem_setup_env
# lscfg -l hdisk*

We use raid sets so our hdisks response lists the raid set
# lscfg -l hdisk* |pg
hdisk0 U78D3.001.WZS0BRZ-P1-C49-L60776CE100-L0 SAS 4K RAID 10 Disk Array
hdisk1 U78D3.001.WZS0BRZ-P1-C49-L20776CE100-L0 SAS 4K RAID 0 Disk Array

in my case due the use of raid sets as opposed to logical mirrors I need
to drill down further to list a pdisk or physical disk via lscfg -l pdisk*
as opposed to the hdisk that you are looking for

now this is where you see the physical location - the planer 2 and device
or D1/2/3
# lscfg -l pdisk*
pdisk0 U78D3.001.WZS0BRZ-P2-D3 Physical SAS 4K Disk Drive
pdisk1 U78D3.001.WZS0BRZ-P2-D2 Physical SAS 4K Disk Drive
pdisk2 U78D3.001.WZS0BRZ-P2-D1 Physical SAS 4K Disk Drive

from the redundant vios I get the rest of the drives internal in the
machine
# lscfg -l pdisk*
pdisk0 U78D3.001.WZS0BRZ-P2-D6 Physical SAS 4K Disk Drive
pdisk1 U78D3.001.WZS0BRZ-P2-D4 Physical SAS 4K Disk Drive
pdisk2 U78D3.001.WZS0BRZ-P2-D5 Physical SAS 4K Disk Drive

additional detail can be seen with the -v switch which will get a drive
type, serial number code level and other details
# lscfg -vl pdisk1
pdisk1 U78D3.001.WZS0BRZ-P2-D2 Physical SAS 4K Disk Drive

I hope this helps confirm the identity of the failed disk and allow for
the physical replacement.

hdisk1 on the second VIOS is the dead drive. Makes it easier to replace.
