Somehow, I don't think this helps your situation though.
How about creating a 2nd table by selecting only the columns you want to
keep from the original table.

Subject: SQL0952 when dropping a column
I am trying to drop a few columns from a work file. I can only delete the
fields after the file is built.
When I run ALTER TABLE QTEMP.XXX DROP COLUMN X1, I get SQL0952.
I displayed the job log and see the drop triggers a message CPD32CC that
cannot be displayed advising that data will be lost. The system cancels the
job.
I added CHGJOB INQMSGRPY(*SYSREPL).and added an entry monitoring for
CPD32CC which is displayed in the job log.
This did not help.
What other suggestions are there?
