There's probably no answer to this question but I thought I'd try it out
anyway. We have 24 terabytes of data sitting in a Protectier VTL.
This need to be migrated off and moved to another data center. Because of
geographic constraints it's going to be done using LTO 6 tape. The LTO 6
tape drive will be fiber channel connected to the same SAN fabric as the
power server and Protectier VTL.
In case anybody asks why we are using LTO 6 because it will be a one-off
operation and once the data is copied off the drive will no longer be
required and in the target location we only have an LTO6 tape drive
attached to the server.
We will probably use the command DUPMEDBRM to copy the data off the tape.
As part of assessing the amount of time it's going to take and therefore
how long our service provider needs to be engaged I need to come up with
some sort of number for how long it's going to take to dump the data. So
far they haven't come up with any numbers.
I don't really know how to come up with that metric but perhaps somebody
with experience in this can provide some guidance?
The server is a Power 6 server and will not be running any other
application so it can be fully dedicated to the backup.
