AFAIK "print devices" need direct support inside the printer (SCS, or AFP).

You're good with a remote writer queue. You can easily add a *devd class *vrt, or just create the print *devd, and let the remote queue be created automatically.

though the 6500 DN is. I'm assuming the 6510 is just a newer model.

If the printer is capable of PCL, you're good to go as long as you use host print transform.
