You might be able to. But then you have to become a wizard at HMC
commands, which well 99% of my customers would have a real hard time with,
and I quite frankly have to use copy paste a lot when I get a command to
work as intended, then save it for later because remembering the dang
things is not something a reasonable person should need to do.

Besides that it used to be in the GUI, why did the HMC guys drop the
functionality?

Jim,
Are you sure you can't still restrict those settings via CLI? A lot of the
functionality that has been lost in the GUI, remains in the CLI. I have
become proficient in the use of the CLI just because of that (and because I
like my devices to have consistent numberings, at least to begin with).

The newest version of the HMC did not include some of the granularity in
security that we enjoyed in the past. For instance, we can set up users
that can stop/start only their partitions and start a console session,
however we can no longer restrict them from seeing other partitions on
the
system, or all of the hardware. (Used to be able to do that)

I think IBM is talking to a very narrow group of users when doing the
design
of the HMC software, and there is little or no representation from IBM i
on
that panel. They asked for input at PowerUp a few years ago but the
slide
was up/down so fast you could not copy down the URL. It was not in the
handout that I could find.

On other cloud services we are not allowed DSP01 or HMC access for
obvious
reasons (it would give us access to other LPARs/systems.

Wrong. You can easily create users and assign pre-created, very granular
settings in HMC which user is allowed to do *what* on *which* LPAR.
