Nathan,
Your experience varies widely from mine. I find it common. Perhaps because I put on the latest release as soon as possible.
I've had ERP vendors who knew that their hardware would not support the latest OS but was waiting for GA date in order to put off the purchase as long as possible. Money only, not due to any hopes for new hardware announcements, etc. And this was for the release in which several of their programs had to be recompiled to run on (that ANZOBJCVN issue). Would not even think of opening the redbook on how to get ready before the software was GA.
Other vendors had multiple stuff which would not work on the new release. And would not support new features for 15 months after GA. For a H/A vendor, this is unacceptable. Their competition got wind of this and started stuffing periodicals with full page inserts and they had to change course. I suspect they were also limping along on old hardware which would not run the latest release.
Domino had numerous issues with Power 9's when they first came out. Only time I've ever open a "Crit Sit" ticket with IBM. (This is WAY above a sev 1 system down ticket.) Worked with a gal who was really trying but we were getting nowhere until SAP customers started experiencing the same issue with P9's. (This has long been resolved now.)
