One other thought - since the fields from the 2nd file are going to be null
anyway why not leave those fields out of the record format of the Join File.

Yes, I wrote that implicitly in my text, mentioning one of the two screen
shots.
When you include the OMIT specs you are asking the database to return
NULLs in xxx_IST fields.

Do you need to specify ALLNULL on the fields in the record layout?
I cannot find the term ALLNULL neither in my DDS reference, nor in my ILE
RPG reference documents. I have older ones for matching my OS version on the
150, V4R5. From a Google search, it seems to be a H spec (in newer releases
only?).
