Yes there was, BUT you couldn't put a FC #2844 or FC #2746 in the system unit. Because these are PCI-x cards they must go into an 0595 or a 5796 expansion unit. Now you may not recall that those things were the 'blue cables' (HSL) and were supported on the E4A *ONLY* with IBM i 7.1. Once you upgraded to i 7.2 those drawers simply vanished!

So effectively the answer is 'No' but historically it was possible.

P.S. if you want a funny story, ask Jim Buck what happens when you upgrade to i 7.2 on an E4A with HSL attached disk. ;-)

We haven't been a Client Access shop since the days when it was called PC Support, and while we have a CA installation that can connect with the console and virtual front panel, it's problematic at best.
