You may or may not recall, but the E4A (Actually Power6 in general) supported both HSL and 12X style loops. It was the transition point from HSL to 12X. Previous systems supported only HSL and follow-on only supported 12X. Further, if you had a 4 Core or larger system you could support both HSL and 12X at the same time. The recommendation for new machines was to utilize 12X drawers, as it was already stated that HSL would not be supported on i 7.2.

However many customers had significant investment in HSL gear so they migrated it. IF you needed to support i 7.2 and i 7.1 at the same time with only HSL loops then it was suggested to keep i 7.1 as an IBM i Hosting partition and install i 7.2 as a guest.

So in short if you read the MTU or many other documents this was a known issue!!
