I think you misunderstood me. It doesn't surprise me that you're having
trouble resolving this problem -- this software doesn't seem very
user-friendly at all.
It does surprise me that you're using the host table, though. The host
table is typically only used for testing one-off scenarios and for very
small networks with very few hosts. A larger network almost always has
a DNS server because hosts are always changing so maintaining host files
on every necessary system is unmanageable.
