For future reference for you or anyone here using Python, this may be an option:

https://pypi.org/project/pysftp/

You can easily create all kinds of customized SFTP scripting if needed..

Back from doing my homework...

I have followed most of the links you threw my way But, as I've always tried to reduce homework to a minimum, I kept looking for a simpler way and finally found QMGTOOLS/STRSFTP

for my simple needs (download files) it's perfect and works like a charm.
