RE: Install PTFs / Perform OS upgrades from HMC images?

I've done the combined OS/PTF DSLO image, one single image.
GO LICPGM - 40. Create distribution media
The image also includes all license keys, and any command default customization.
One IPL, OS upgrade with all latest PTFS, license keys, and includes any customization.
It also minimizes the down window to less than 1 hour.

There were some issues with the setup of the network install via SST.
It was simpler to just copy the single combined OS/PTF image, named I_BASE_01, to each LPAR.
I only have 4 LPARS

Sure is.

Easy enough, and fast if you use the internal LAN. If you need to go across the network of course that will slow it down a little.

The HMC can act as the source, but, and it’s a big one, it will not
change DVD images when needed like an image catalog. That will drive
you to distraction really quickly.

Consider using the network install. Now you can run multiple
upgrades at once. The network install is really easy to set up and
run. Just google “network install IBM i”.

Now the kicker, if you want to avoid doing the PTF apply after the
upgrade, then build one partition, and PTF it. Next use option GO
LICPGM
40 to create your own distribution media. Use that image instead of the
downloaded ones. When the upgrade finishes, it will be completely done.
