There’s a really easy way to do that.

The HMC can act as the source, but, and it’s a big one, it will not change DVD images when needed like an image catalog. That will drive you to distraction really quickly.

Consider using the network install. Now you can run multiple upgrades at once. The network install is really easy to set up and run. Just google “network install IBM i”.

Now the kicker, if you want to avoid doing the PTF apply after the upgrade, then build one partition, and PTF it. Next use option GO LICPGM 40 to create your own distribution media. Use that image instead of the downloaded ones. When the upgrade finishes, it will be completely done.

Suppose I wanted to perform OS upgrades or install PTFs on 25 systems.
Would it be possible to do this using images stored on the HMC rather than
copying the images to each individual system? Has anyone actually done
this? Any experience reports appreciated!
