I believe the 5251-12 was a predecessor to the 5294 remote controller.
5394 was a follow-on to the 5294 remote controller.
5x94's were controllers only - no workstation.
5294's would support 4 devices unless you had the spiffy enhanced model
which would do 8.
I don't miss doing the setups for those.... SDLC - UGH. And, every
device had to be powered on to register with the controller.

Hi Patrik,
I am fairly confident none of the 525x models supported 132 wide.
Thank you for the link - it is interesting that IBM recommends the desk
size but NOT the strength required as these beasts were HEAVY.
Yes the 5251 Model 12 was a combination of workstation plus remote
controller, later replaced by 5394 I believe.
I had never seen a 5252 before. We did have a 5225 printer though and
5256's. And I still have some unused twinax connectors and joiners.
A friend of mine had a number of 5251's in his garage.
He successfully converted one to an aquarium.
If you unlocked the cabinet using the screws at the bottom of each side,
the two halves, which were hinged would open up allowing service through
the top. (From the photo on page 14 you can see the line (join) down the
side.
So he replaced the internals with an aquarium that I think he had made
specifically for the case. To feed the fish he would just open the case
by pulling front away from back on the hinges.
It was very good!
Another story, I remember my boss using twinax as a tow rope. Yep and it
worked perfectly, towed his wife's car from where it broke down to his
home. Another one of the many uses for twinax!!!
Cheers
Don

I think you can add;
5251 Model 11 - Local terminal and
5251 model 12 - remote workstation and controller
These devices originally for S34, S38 I am sure were also used on AS400
Thanks for pointing out! Searching for more information, I guess, the
screen was always ca. 14" Green? Was there 27 by 132 already? I guess, no.

On PDF page 43, there's a 5252 shown. What's that?! A terminal on one side
and... a card reader?
A page further I see that the 5251/12 is a 5251/11 with kind of a 5394
integrated. Understood.
I remember very well that the keyboards were, in my opinion, reallygreat.
From what I have seen, it reminds me very much of 1970's typewriters. ;-)

I was somewhat surprised to see it has a fan!
The positioning and size of the keys, but most importantly the feel of
the key press.
That's what the author of the above articles also wrote. :-)
