I see few reasons to use STRPASTHR versus TELNET. Back in SNA days we used STRPASTHR because that's what we had available. Some people still like STRPASTHR because they could put a specific device on it to consistently get the same display name. But in general I would just use TELNET, or map a device directly to that system.
