Hey Bob,

Set up Enterprise Identity Mapping. That way you don't need to worry about passwords. Use Kerberos for authentication. It takes about a day to set up. Say goodbye to IBM i password reset calls too.

Subject: Navigator for i File Shares and changing user password

Greetings,

We use Navigator for i to create and share File Shares over IFS files for certain users.

As part of our security policy we force users to change their password after x number of days.
When the user password changes they lose access to their mapped iSeries File Shares. I also see their i Series Network Neighborhood user profile get disabled too.

To resolve we reset the disabled Network Neighborhood profile, have them try to access the share by logging in fresh. Sometimes removing and remapping the File Share.

Looking to prevent their Navigator for i Files Shares from getting disconnected after a password change and losing access to the share. Is there a best practice to prevent this from happening?

Thank you,
Bob Schwartz
