SQL can do it!
It may only depend on the release and/or Technology Refresh you are on.
The following SQL Statement will calculate the MD5 or an IFS File.

Values(HASH_MD5(Get_Clob_From_File('/home/Dir1/Dir2/YourIFSFile.txt')));

Subject: Calculate MD5 Hash for Stream File

anything new in the realm of generating an MD5 hash for a stream file in the
IFS?

It looks like openssl may be the easiest... then just output the data to a
stream file and read it in?

Wanted to make sure there weren't any SQL functions that may make it easier
and avoid needing to read in and parse a stream file.
