I have been buying MicroCenter brand USB sticks for years and have not had a bad one yet. I don't know how the price compares after adding shipping and all but I have been happy with the ones I have. My largest is only a 128G because I haven't needed anything larger...yet. However, this email thread does remind me that I really need to build out a "tools" stick to carry from client to client. For those that have followed my RDi dilemma, I'm allowed to install stuff on their IBM systems, just not my laptop. Go figure.

** I am in no way affiliated with MicroCenter other than being a satisfied customer.

Be careful buying cheap 1TB or 2TB usb sticks. I had a cheap one last year that I lost most everything because the memory went bad.

They are cheap for a reason.

I see they also have a 2TB USB drive for $9.89.

If the libraries are important, buy two or three of them and backup to each one in case one goes bad.

Create a dummy work file using SQL.
Write a quick and dirty CL to read the file and create a save file for each one.

save files is a great idea. And with a little help of CL should be
done rather quickly.

Betreff: What would you suggest for archiving ancient libraries?

I have a JS-12 on v 7.2 that I plan to retire. This guy is the end
of
the line for many libraries that I have carried along for too long. I
have a new Power 9 9009 41A v 7.4 that has plenty of space but there
is really no need to move these libraries because I can't remember
when last used them. I would like to retain my status as a packrat so
I need a suggestion on how best to save these libraries so they can be
restored if necessary but not taking up valuable space on the IBM i.
Tape is not an option because the tape drive for the JS-12 (external)
is
dead. So, I thought saving each library as a save file (as tedious as
that might be) and then pushing them over to a share somewhere would
be the best option. Can you think of a better way to handle it?
