You can set the LPAR's console to be a LAN console, but once managed you
have to nuke the box (the Hypervisor only, to be precise) to go back to
single LPAR mode.
Unless you have a very specific configuration, if you have a single LPAR
you should be able to nuke it and still IPL as normal afterwards (do set
the LAN Console BEFORE nuking, so it's easier to manage the system).
I can see no reason to stop using an HMC though...
