I too would be loath to go back to lan console from HMC. I suppose if I had a single lpar system and my HMC was coming off of maintenance, and it was too old to upgrade to a current version of HMC and money was very tight I might submit to it.

Not that I have ever done it and maybe those who have can chime in about "there's more to this than how your 5250 system console operates. There's also the control panel, etc, to consider." Maybe that the stuff that others are concerned about.
