I mean, same story everywhere; e.g. near the end of the PS3's life span, disabling one of the SPEs in the factory to increase yield had become a moot point for Sony but they still kept on doing it while selling very expensive development units with all of them enabled.

It's not nice but we can't do a lot about it

Back in the day, IBM would offer systems with CPW ratings that spanned up to a factor of 10 for the exact same CPU, which was just clocked up or down in order to meet CPW targets. It kind of rubbed some of us wrong to know that the CPU was clocked down for "marketing" purposes.
